MEN’S BOWLING CLUB NEWS UPDATE – December 2017
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS; The final game of the 2017 championships were played last Friday night. Congratulations to all the winners and placegetters and thanks to all those who took part. It is hoped some more of our bowlers may participate in the coming season. Championships are an important part of any clubs ’annual event diary.
CLUB PRESENTATION NIGHT; It was regrettable that this function did not receive enough support to stage the event. Perhaps the timing was astray with so many Christmas functions being scheduled at this time of the year. If anyone has any ideas as to how to revive these events, please contact a committee person with your concept. We are always prepared to take innovative ideas on board.
PENNANTS; Please note that pennants will commence on the 3rd February, a week earlier than the previous season. We will be contesting grade 5. The member numbers did not permit us to field another side. This is a highly undesirable position to be in as we will have a complete side in reserve. (on paper) However, when we take the non-availability factor into consideration, we are clearly half a dozen or more bowlers short.
I seek your patience and cooperation during the selection process.
BOWLS STICKERS; (DISCS) New stickers have been sourced locally, Regal Signs, and will be available from the club. (bar staff) They will be a very reasonable $4.00 for two sheets i.e., 4 stickers.
WDBA 2018 HANDBOOK; These are currently available and are in the bowls cupboard. There is an amendment that is required to be placed on page eleven. They are self-adhesive and cut to page size and may be found in an envelope with the hand books.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN; The recent attendance of a group students from Coolamon Central School taking part in bowls for sport at our club was most welcome. However, it did highlight the need for those assisting with the instruction to possess a working with children clearance. Fortunately, Henk Hulsman and myself possess the necessary documentation. Obviously, we may not always be available and there is a clear need for other members to qualify. It is a straightforward process that is cost free for volunteers. Other situations involving our junior bowler will arise from time to time and we do not want to be found wanting in this regard.
PRE-CHRISTMAS CHOOK RUN; Last Friday evening saw the conclusion of this event. It was good to see some fresh faces along with the regulars who support our bare foot bowls. Those who attended enjoyed some good-natured fun with the ham raffles proving as popular as ever.
Finally, I would like to convey my best wishes to all for the festive season and hope you have a joyous time and a healthy, happy new year.
